Resumen: El abuelo de Galdós, publicada primero como novela, luego como drama, representa el trasiego que el autor canario manejó durante toda su vida entre el género narrativo y el teatral. La llamada “novela dialogada” procede de una antigua tradición, en la que la literatura española cuenta con antecedente tan noble como La Celestina. El presente artículo intenta estudiar las variaciones entre el texto novela (1897) y el texto drama (1905) de una de las obras más representativas de Galdós, con intención de comprobar el funcionamiento y uso de su gramática escénica.

GALDÓS’ EL ABUELO. NOVEL AND DRAMA

Abstract: First published as a novel and later as a play, El abuelo by Galdós embodies the shuffle between the narrative and theatrical genres that characterized the work of the canarian author. The so-called “dialogued novel” comes from a storied tradition in Spanish literature that features such notable works as La Celestina. This article examines the variations between the novel version (1897) and the play version (1905) of one of Galdós’ most representative texts, with the intention of understanding the workings and the use of grammar for the stage.
