The Theatre Documentation Centre is a unit under the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music of the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Spain.
Its chief objective is to collect, preserve and make available to researchers and professionals the artistic, graphic and statistical material, etc. produced by staging activities.
The Theatre Documentation Centre aims to disseminate Spanish theatre in and outside our borders, both in its different forms and types, and the different sectors within; all from a historic perspective but also from today’s stage reality.
These objectives are shared with many public and private institutions. In recent years, it has collaborated in various projects with institutions such as Biblioteca Nacional de España, Biblioteca Virtual Cervantes, Centro de Documentación de Artes Escénicas de Andalucía, Centro de Documentación del Teatro Nacional de Montevideo, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático, Instituto Nacional de Teatro (UNESCO), Asociación de Empresarios Teatrales de Cataluña, Sociedad General de Autores, Unión de Actores, Asociación de Directores de Escena y Editores, Unión de Actores, Asociación de Autores de Teatro, Sociedad de Gestión de Artistas e intérpretes (AISGE), Mercartes, Festival de Teatro Clásico de Almagro, Festival de teatro Clásico de Mérida, Muestra de Teatro de Autor Español Contemporáneo, Filmoteca Nacional, Teatro Español de Madrid, MAE (Centre de Documentació i Museu de les Arts Escèniques), etc.
