Resumen: Saltimbanquis es una de las primeras obras de teatro escritas por María Lejárraga y Gregorio Martínez Sierra. El texto se publicó en Teatro de ensueño (1905), cuya propuesta aúna el arte dramático y el modernismo, y se sumerge en un idealizado mundo del circo y los artistas ambulantes. Este ensayo examina Saltimbanquis a la luz de la historia cultural para sondear su importancia en la biografía de sus promotores (quienes, más tarde, la estrenarían en forma de zarzuela, Las golondrinas), así como la aportación al contexto literario y artístico de transición del siglo XIX al XX, que fue especialmente crítico para España.

First attempts of the Martínez Sierra couple in the theatre: Saltimbanquis

Abstract: Saltimbanquis is one of the first plays written by María Lejárraga and Gregorio Martínez Sierra. The text was published in Teatro de ensueño (1905), which combines dramatic art and modernism, while presents an idealized itinerant circus world. This essay studies Saltimbanquis through Cultural History to explore the importance of this theatrical piece in the biography of its authors (who would later perform it as the zarzuela Las golondrinas), as well as its contribution to the literary, and artistic transition context, from the nineteenth to the twentieth century, which was especially critical for Spain.
